The model was originally designed for railroad engineers. It provided all protection necessary from the hazards in the locomotive cabins. The buckle was added as a status symbol, which to some extent it still is for this type of boot. The Concrete Rough & Tough leather has a very distinct vintage texture. Red Wing named it a "Pull-Out" which stands for flexible quality. We simply call it beautiful.
